Anti-Wrinkle Injection

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

Overactive facial muscles, especially between the eyebrows, forehead and around the eyes can often contribute to the formation of active facial lines and wrinkles. With the loss of collagen and elastin in the skin with aging, or as a result of sun damage, these lines become increasingly apparent and permanent.

The use of anti-wrinkle injection to relax the underlying muscles is an effective method to improve these lines and wrinkles. In some individuals, the use of dermal filler treatment in combination with anti-wrinkle injections will be necessary to achieve the optimum rejuvenation. Skin rejuvenation programmes are also available to enhance overall improvements.

  • What areas can benefit from an anti-wrinkle injection?
Anti-wrinkle injections (wrinkle relaxers) are useful wherever there are dynamic lines or areas of overactive muscle. Areas commonly treated with anti-wrinkle injections: Frown lines between the eyebrows Forehead lines (horizontal lines) Crow’s feet-lines around the eyes YoungOne Clinic also treat the advanced areas: Brow lift Lip flip Bunny lines on the side of nose Dimpling of the chin Upper lip lines Square jaw/Bruxism Platysmal or neck bands Gummy smile
  • What will the treatment involve?
A 30mins free consultation is required for every new client. Your consultation will include a full facial assessment where your area of concerns and expectations will be discussed. Our doctors and nurse will then tailor a treatment plan specifically for you. The treatment will involve a series of small injections into the muscles of your face. The injection process itself will only take several minutes. With anti-wrinkle injection, the pain is minimal. At Youngone clinic, we offer numbing cream, ice pack to reduce the discomfort. Most patients just choose an ice pack. Results become evident after 3-5 days, with the maximal effect at 2 weeks. A follow-up appointment (free) is recommended for first-time treatments to ensure you are satisfied with your results and to assess the need for any dosage adjustments. This will ensure ongoing treatments are perfected with the correct dose for your individual needs. No treatment will be performed prior to the 2 week follow-up, as anti-wrinkle injections take 10-14 days to take full effect.
  • Who shouldn't have Injectable Treatments?
If you are pregnant or breast feeding If you are taking certain medications; such as aminoglycoside antibiotics, spectinomycin or other medicines that interfere with neuromuscular transmission. if you have a neuromuscular disorder (e.g. myasthenia gravis). if you have infection at the proposed injection site. If you are allergic to botox or dysport (hypersensitive to botulinum toxin type A or any other ingredients in the drug)
  • What are the common side effects?
Most side effects are associated with the injection (redness, stinging sensation, rarely bruising) and will be very short lived maybe only hours. Some people may experience a mild headache for a few days following treatment yet this will be easily treatable.
  • What is the difference between an anti-Wrinkle and a dermal filler injection?
The line and wrinkle injection treatment available at YoungOne Clinic relaxes the muscle under the skin to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles which have developed as the collagen has been worn away. The Dermal Filler is a temporary volumiser injected into the skin that will fill facial lines and wrinkles, enhance lips and create facial contouring e.g. to the cheeks. Dermal fillers are used on lines and wrinkles that remain present on the skin when the muscle underneath is relaxed with our treatment. Dermal Fillers are a fluid form of Hyaluronic Acid which is a protein found between the cells of all living organisms and is a component of Collagen. As we age our body produces less of this acid which contributes to the ageing process with the appearance of dry and thinner skin.
  • What is the aftercare?
To help reduce the accidental spread of injectables to neighbouring muscle groups, we recommend that you avoid lying flat for 4 hours post treatment and avoid the following activities for around 24 hours: Rubbing or massaging the area treated Vigorous exercise Any “facial” beauty treatments Some patients experience a slight headache after their injections, which can be managed with paracetamol if required. Following this period you can use your normal skin care routine.
